Dame Ellen MacArthur - The Circular Economy - and Fluidity at the Disruptive Innovation Festival

Some months ago I watched this talk from world class yachtswoman and pioneer Dame Ellen MacArthur:

I wrote to her.

As a result I have been invited to host an Open Mic session at this year's Disruptive Innovation Festival, which is hosted by the Dame Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

This is an online event from 2 - 20 November. (I will post a link to the online programme as soon as it is published.)

Fluidity is an economic system that can be programmed for any ecosocial outcomes you want. Ecosocial is a new term I am coining to mean that which serves sustainable economy, sustainable environment, sustainable society. The root of the eco- part of the words economy and ecology is the Greek word oikos. This means home or hearth. The goal of an ecosociety is to provide a true home to the human soul, human aspirations, human needs. To all the things that we share in common, that make us human.

Many of these things have been underserved. There is much to do. Enjoyably, doing things in a better way than the past will be hugely rewarding. And where the need is greatest, we will see the most massive positive change, fastest.

Current human economic systems that we see were created in the past. Not only that, they were created for past sets of conditions. Not only that, they were created piecemeal. None of them went about a fundamental system redesign. None of them designed for today's reality and opportunities - much less tomorrow's. None of them used big data.

Fluidity addresses all of this.

It is a system that will be programmed according to humanity's highest ideals and vision for itself. Including but not limited to the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the Rights of Nature (see Ecuador's 2007) Constitution, and FD Roosevelt's Second Bill of Rights - applied universally and updated for the 21st Century.

Can you imagine an economy that actually improves your life, your environment and social cohesion without you doing anything? In fact all you will have to do is (continue to) spend the resources you have in ways that are enjoyable and meaningful to you.

Can you imagine an economic system whereby you bank balance increases on its own? (And doesn't go down unless you spend it?) Can you imagine being rewarded for spending money on things that are meaningful to you?

It's on the horizon.

We have been speaking about Change for a number of years. Now it's here.

Fluidity plays a small part in that.

Such change is here. It will affect all spheres. How it affects us depends in large measure to how well we are listening, how closely we are paying attention.

Pearls at your feet will not pick themselves up.
